Clerical Mobile Lab – Clerical Support Worker

FireWhat, Inc. operates mobile labs which are trailers with specialized equipment for providing office-like capabilities in remote field settings in support of emergency incident response. Clerical Mobile Labs are trailers equipped with computers and printing equipment to print/collate/bind documents and print/plot large-format maps.
The Clerical Support Worker supports the field-based operation of a Clerical Mobile Lab, performing a variety of clerical tasks and related duties under direct supervision of a Clerical Mobile Lab Manager. Typical work assignments are 14 days with 8 to 12 hour work shifts. Staff are typically boarded in tents or trailers provided by FireWhat and meals are provided on-site.
The Clerical Support Worker assists with mobilization, operations and de-mobilization of the Clerical Mobile Lab, including operation and maintenance of computers and printing devices, under direct supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (not in any hierarchical order)
Copies, distributes and files paperwork such as incident action plans, incident maps and related material.
Greets visitors; responds to questions, provides information, documents, instructions or directs visitor to appropriate party.
Responds to requests for information via mail, phone or in-person; gathers appropriate forms and documents, searches for and copies documents from archived records and forwards to requester.
Maintains inventory of supplies and prepares a list of supplies to be ordered.
Maintains copy machines and makes service calls as needed.
Performs data entry into automated programs to track progress, paper use, copier use, or other pertinent data, depending on assignment.
Prepares correspondence, memos, forms and reports using word processing applications software.
Must conduct work in a professional manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of standard office principles and procedures.
Knowledge of the basic capabilities and functions of word processing applications software.
Knowledge of basic math principles.
Knowledge of principles of business English, grammar and punctuation.
Knowledge of principles of telephone etiquette.
Skill in using general office equipment such as telephones multi-line telephone system, fax, duplicating machines, copiers, and computers.
Skill in recording and retrieving general information.
Skill in communicating effectively with others both orally and in writing.
Skill in dealing effectively with the general public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Able to tackle other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in all types of environment, weather and work conditions, including off highway and other remote locations. Work involves sedentary to light work in an emergency base camp setting. There is frequent need to sit, talk or hear, use the hands and occasionally lift light objects (up to 25 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Frequently base camps will be within close proximity to an actual wildfire event and smoke can be a irritant for anyone with respiration issues such as asthma.
18 years of age, High School diploma or GED. One (1) year of clerical or office experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience is highly desired.
