COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS AT FIREWHAT
Beginning Spring of 2013, College of the Siskiyous in Partnership with FireWhat Inc. will be hosting California State Fire Marshall classes at the new FireWhat Training Center in Dunsmuir CA. The classes will be hosted at 5727 Dunsmuir Ave. The facility is planned to open in January 2013 to welcome the new partnership.

CSFM Fire Command 1A Shane Lauderdale Jan 28-Feb 1, 2013
This course includes minimum standards for the fire officer, fire behavior, fire-ground resources, operations, and management with emphasis on initial decision and action processes. This course is CFSTES approved for certification by the CSFM.
Avalanche I Matt Hill Feb 1-3, 2013
When you leave this course you can expect to have a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a trip, basic decision making while in the field, and rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person if an avalanche occurs and someone in your party is caught. Most of these techniques require extensive practice before you can expect to be proficient and no course, this one included, can provide all that experience.
To establish and maintain proficiency in the knowledge and techniques covered in this course, you will have to practice extensively and regularly on their own after leaving the program.
CSFM Fire Command 1B Shane Lauderdale Feb 11-15, 2013
This course addresses decision making under emergency conditions for the first-in company officer and provides the knowledge for response to a variety of suppression situations. Emphasis will be placed on the skills and knowledge for fire fighters and driver/operators who desire promotion to the rank of company officer; for company officers to remain versed in essential and innovative management, leadership, and human relations methods; and for training officers responsible for teaching and developing officers and officer candidates. CSFM Certified.
Avalanche II Matt Hill Mar 1-3, 2013
Designed for serious backcountry travellers and mountain professionals, the Avalanche Level 2 Course is a thorough introduction to snow science. Unlike the Level 1 course, which is focused on avalanche fundamentals, decision making, accident avoidance, and rescue skills, the Level 2 course develops an understanding of snowpack formation and metamorphism. The course alternates between the field and the classroom and puts field observations into a larger context of weather telemetry and other available data. Through this process of data collection and classroom analysis and discussion, the student gains a theoretical framework for understanding snowpack mechanics and an ability to translate this theory into well-informed, safe practices in the field.
Observation guidelines and recording standards for factors that influence and indicate snowpack stability are presented. Avalanche formation and release are discussed. A stability analysis and forecasting process is introduced. This course is designed for those who have an interest in expanding their knowledge and understanding of snow stability and snow stability factors. It is ideal for snow safety and guiding professionals, people interested in these and related careers, and recreational practitioners who are looking for advanced knowledge and skills. The Level 2 serves as a pre-requisite for AIARE Level 3 courses.
CSFM Fire Command 1C Shane Lauderdale Mar 25-29, 2013
The purpose of the Fire Command 1C, I-Zone Fire Fighting for Company Officers, is to bring the company officer out of the city and into the urban interface. This course is CFSTES approved for certification by the CSFM.
CSFM Fire Investigation 1A Shane Lauderdale April 1-5, 2013
This course provides the participants with an introduction and basic overview of fire scene investigation. The focus of this course is to provide information on fire scene indicators and to introduce fire personnel to concepts of investigation. This course is CFSTES approved for certification by the CSFM.
Swift Water Rescue Technician I TBA MID APRIL-TBD
This course is designed to provide an overview at the operational level for emergency response to swiftwater and flood-level situations. Topics include hydrology, swiftwater hazards, and rescue options. Rescue 3 International Certification. (NDA)
CSFM Fire Investigation 1B Shane Lauderdale April 22-26, 2013
This course focuses on evidence collection, preservation, witness interviewing, interrogation, and other legal parameters. Topics of discussion include: motives of arson, report writing, photography, sketching, and criminal law. This course is CFSTES approved for certification by the CSFM.
Low Angle Rope Rescue Ops Cliff Shattuck MID May-TBD
This course is designed to equip the student with the techniques and methods for using rope, webbing, hardware friction devices, and litters in low angle rescue situations. Areas covered include rope and related equipment, anchor systems, safety lines, stretcher lashing and rigging, mechanical advantage systems, and single-line and two-line rescue systems. (NDA)
